Rastafarian T-shirts

Symbolic prints are a great way to customize a t-shirts. Often political and social images which reflect trends in various sub-cultures are featured – a prime example being the Rastafari Movement.

Most Rastas do not think of the movement as a religion but more a way of life. It is a monotheistic religion worshiping one God called Jah. This is no doubt derived from the biblical Jehovah or Jaw eh. According to Rastafarian this God was incarnated as Halie Selassie I – the last emperor of Ethiopia.

Rastafari has Afrocentric ideologies and value systems. Members support the use of cannabis or marijuana and believe that it has certain spiritual properties. Rastafarian colors incorporate a tri-color flag in green , red and yellow and featuring a lion’s silhouette.

Rastafari T-Shirts

Bob Marley was largely responsible for associating Rasta with Reggae. He wears one of the most popular Rasta figures and helped popularize the movement especially among Western audiences.

Bob Marley’s image is still one of the most iconic designs in t-shirt printing. It has been printed on t-shirts in various versions including a pencil sketch and a photograph. Various images of Bob Marley have been immortalized in various t-shirt prints.

Bob Marley introduced Rastafarian chants into some of his songs thereby gaining more exposure for the movement. Other reggae musicians have also use reggae to spread the Rastafarian movement. Notable musicians like Bunny Wailer and Peter Tosh have also included Rastafarian belief into their music.

Red, Green And Gold

Rastafari colors are green , red and gold.

These colors are often incorporated with Bob Marley’s image in t-shirt designs. These colors are common in most Rasta t-shirts. Often the lyrics of Bob Marley’s songs are used accessorize the image on t-shirt designs.

Red represents the blood of Jamaican martyrs while green represents the lush Jamaican countryside while gold represents the wealth of Africa. Black is sometimes incorporated and is a reference to The Marcus Garvey movement.

Rasta and reggae have been very inspirational as artistic sources for many popular t-shirt designs. These symbols became popular during the rebellious 1970s and it is this spirit that appeals to to todays youth as well. Customized t-shirts with these messages and imagery are more popular than ever.
